What is Self Defence?

Self-defence is a countermeasure that involves defending the health and well-being of oneself from harm. The use of the right of self-defense as a legal justification for the use of force in times of danger is available in many jurisdictions.

Physical self-defense is the use of physical force to counter an immediate threat of violence.

Womens Self Defence Workshop January 2019 (ESPA)

The Womens Self Defence Workshop was hosted by the Eclectic Self Protection Association (ESPA) and conducted at Hornsey Town Hall in Crouch End on Saturday the 26th January. After 2 months of electronic advertising and marketing the 3hr seminar became quickly booked. We had a fantastic turnout of women including mothers, their daughters and other teenagers.

With lots of electronic advertising and flyer marketing around North London the 3hr Seminar and Workshop had a fantastic turnout of women including mothers, their daughters and other teenagers from all walks of life.

January 4 Week Self Defence Course 2017 (ESPA)

The January Crouch End 4 Week Self Defence Course was held at Hornsey Town Hall in Crouch End on the 4 Tuesdays Of January 2017 (9th, 16th, 23rd & 30th) from 7.30 to 9pm. The course was marketed 3 months in advance and had a turnout of 12 attendies (9 ladies and 3 gents). As everyone was aged 16 plus it meant we could cover more weapon personal defence techniques and pressure testing. For this particualr course we were in the matted medium size studio which also meant we could drill ground work. As with all sessions and courses a pre-health check and decleration was done.

Critical Appreciation Of Kickboxing

Kickboxing is a martial art and sport of attack and defence which originated from a blend of full-contact Karate and Taekwondo mixed with Western Boxing that “uses mathematics of the human body to punch and kick the power system by striking at muscles and nerves” (Reid H et al, 1983, Page 12).

Push Up Training

Traditional pushups are beneficial for building upper body strength. They work the triceps, pectoral muscles, and shoulders. When done with proper form, they can also strengthen the lower back and core by engaging (pulling in) the abdominal muscles. Pushups are a fast and effective exercise for building strength.

Adult Learners Week Free Self Defence Seminar 28/05/2005

Due to the success of the last Self Defence Seminar run at the Peabody Trust for the last Adult Learners Week in 2004, a second 3hr course was organised by the LSBU Academy Of Sport. The event was planned and booked 2 to 3 months in advance by a senior sports coordinator, with the recruitment of a sports ambassador. This was a free ‘unpaid event’ advertised and marketed around South London including Peackam, Elephant & Castle, and Bermonsdey.
