Eclectic Self Protection - North London Martial Arts & Self Defence
What is Self-defence?
Self-defence is the generic term most people use to describe their behaviour when employing a physical & natural response to a confrontation of a violent nature. Self-defence is predominantly about the implementation of a physical response via the application of a technique or a series of techniques. In essence, self-defence is about survival and our own natural instinct to stay alive and intact when attacked, and therefore indicates we want to do more damage to our assailant than they do to us.
The more common phrase regarding self-defence and personal protection training is called ‘self-protection’. Self-protection is a fusion of generic personal security awareness training, protocols and natural self-defence techniques and training methods consisting of both 'soft' and 'hard' skills. In general, if you are looking to enhance your ‘self-defence’ skills it is better to attend a club or a specialised course that instructs some form of self-protection than it is to train in a standard traditional martial arts style/system. The reason for this is that very few traditional martial arts instructors actually incorporate personal security awareness training and combative techniques into the respective styles/systems they promote. Eclectic Self Protection (ESP) combat's this problem by incorporating these missed out 'soft' and 'hard' skills whilst offering the practical elements and health benefits of oriental martial art systems in a modern, eclectic and systematic way.
